According to the North American Registry of midwives (NARM) a Primary Under Supervision (phase 3) is "an apprentice midwife who provides all aspects of care as if they were in practice, although the supervising midwife has primary responsibility and is present in the room during all care provided. For Primary Under Supervision Births this includes labor management, the birth including the placenta, and immediate postpartum care. " Source
